Sa*Ga! In Gameboy Spinach-Vision(tm)!
|

 |
Kinda nauseating, isn't it? Well, be glad that
the Gameboy screens finally improved. Back in the
day, they were blurry, ugly, and most of all,
spinach-green! Of course,
you may be wondering what talk about the Gameboy
has to do with Sa*Ga. After all, wasn't it on the
PSX first? Nay, I say! The first Sa*Ga... the
first three, actually... were indeed on the
Gameboy. And, surprisingly enough, they were
brough out in the US, too, as Final
Fantasy Legend. It continued on the
Super Famicom, as Romancing Sa*Ga, for three more
games, though these never made it to the states.
And finally, and most recently, are the Sa*Ga
Frontier games on the Playstation; these are the
ones people are likely most familiar with. It's
amazing to compare Final Fantasy Legend to Sa*Ga
Frontier 2...
This brings me to what this
page is about. Throughout Sa*Ga there are
numerous, memorable characters, heroes and
villains, and those lying inbetween. This page is
dedicated to those characters that, because of
obscurity or villainy, have never gotten the
attention they deserve.

Creator
- Appearance: Sa*Ga 1
- Also known as: Kami-sama; the Silk Hat
man.
- Age: As old as the Universe.
- Occupation: Divinity
- Weakness: Power tools
Creator is an unusual
character, especially considering he came around
long before Square started putting mad dieties in
their games at every opportunity.
In the universe of Sa*Ga 1, a
mammoth Tower connected numerous worlds, from
fantasy, to modern day, to literal Hells. It was
rumored that, at the top of the Tower, was
Paradise.
However, after the heroes
fought their way through the Tower, fighting
sinister threats to all who live, they come
across Creator... who, secretly, had helped them
through enigmatic hints all along. He told them
that everything they had gone through was simply
a game for his amusement, and that they had done
well. Needless to say, the heroes immediately
took up arms against their god...
Creator was the boss of the
game, as well as a nameless character that often
appeared to give hints about what to do next. To
my knowledge, he was the first villain in a Square game
that was actually a deity, rather than a demon or
monster. He wasn't one of the more difficult
bosses though, especially when you realize that,
thanks to a programming error, a single chainsaw
swipe will kill him...

Apollo
- Appearance: Sa*Ga 2, Hihou Densetsu
- Age: Unknown; several centuries
- Occupation: Tyrant, New God
- Weakness: None, the bastard. Grr.
Apollo was the major
villain in Sa*Ga 2, even though he wasn't the
last boss. Despite this, he was still, by far,
the hardest fight in the game, and more difficult
than the last bosses in many others, thanks to
his huge defense and massive attack strength. He
wielded the Masamune, after all, as well as the
nuclear magic, Flare...
Apollo had delusions of power,
and he nearly saw them to fruition He was one of
the 'new gods', people who used the Treasures,
fragments of the old gods, to give themselves
immense mystic power. Through devious scheming
and backstabbing, he managed to acquire all the
treasures of the heroes, and used them! He fell
only because, in his haste, he missed a single
one...

Johan
- Appearance: Sa*Ga Frontier 2
- Pronounced: Yo-han.
- Age: He's not telling.
- Occupation: Ex-Assassin, Scorpion
guild.
- Special skill: Tornado Blade
- Hair: Blond and wild
Johan was once one
of the Scorpions, a guild of mercenaries
and assassins who had mastered anima arts
the likes of which the world had never
seen. By manipulating the flow of anima
around them, they were able to walk
unnoticed in even the largest crowd,
people simply not recognizing their
presence. However... he abandoned them,
striking out on his own, to try to make
his own life. He soon allied with Gustave
XIII, serving as one of his aides, until
the scorpion's venom felled him at the
southern fort...
He has the dubious
honor of being one of the least used
characters in Sa*Ga Frontier 2, with his
introduction being an optional quest.
Maybe it suits his job as an invisible
killer...
